  • Lab activity: long distance call

In this lab, the students are required to setup a mini central office (PBX) in order to make a long distance call (inter CO call). They will learn how setup the physical connection from CO (central office) to CPE (Customer Premise Equipment), assign number to port, and test to make a local call.

  • Understanding LAN

By learning this, the students are able to understand how the LAN works: components, media, technology, and the difference between switching and routing. The topics for this meeting are: LAN cables LAN topology Ethernet, and token ring technology switching & routing

  • Broadband Modems

By learning this the students are able to understand how the DSL works: ADSL, cable modems, and wireless modems. The topics for this meeting are: Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Cable modems wireless modem (analog, 2G, 3G, wifi, wimax)

  • Lab activity: VoIP call

In this lab, the students are required to configure accounts on a mini central office (PBX) in order to make a local call. Local call means a call that is performed under one area usually is served by one central office (in other case it served by two central office or more). They will learn how setup…

  • Modem

By learning this, the students are able to understand data communication over PSTN, modulation and demodulation, and challenges to improve data rate on analog communication. The topics for this meeting are: Data communication over PSTN Modulation modem standards negotiation and handshaking BAUD & bit rate limitation on datarate

  • Data for Transmission

By learning this, the students are able to understand unit of data communication, numbering system, synchronous and asynchronous communication, and the differences between packet and frame. The topics for this meeting are: basic of data unit numbering system synchronous & asynchronous packet vs frame

  • Introduction to Datacom and Networking

By learning this, the students are able to understand the data communication model, scope of communication, and type of communication circuit. The topics for this meeting are: Information theory Data circuit model Analog and digital circuit Point-to-point & Multidrop circuit LAN & WAN TCP/IP network
